Ceramic Coating vs Wax

  • New cars are getting more expensive, so maintaining a car’s paint not only preserves its value, but also helps prevent unwanted trips to the body shop.

  • Why ceramic coating a car is better than a regular wash and wax

    • Waxes usually last less than they are advertised as, thus they provide a false sense of security (especially in the wintertime).

    • Waxes don’t provide any protection against bird poop. Bird poop is one of the worst things that can touch your paint. In just 5 minutes the poop can start etching through the clear coat. The poop will eat through the wax in seconds and work its way into the paint. Bird poop has a low pH level of 3 – 4.5

    • Ceramic coatings are the best thing against salt in the wintertime. Wax will fade midway through wintertime and your car paint will be unprotected against salt and grime. In the short-term it could cause scratches in the paint. In the long term the car could start to rust. Rust eats the metal from the inside out which makes it harder to spot and more expensive to repair. Rusty cars lose most of their value. Rust is a big deal breaker in car sales.

    • Ceramic coatings are also the best way to protect your car in the summer. UV rays can cause the car paint to start to fade, almost like a bleaching effect.

    • Helps protect from light scratches and dust and pollution.

    • Ease of maintenance. Bird poo and dirt come off so much easier with the slick ceramic coating. Self cleaning properties make the paint look amazing for much longer.

    • Hydrophobic properties make water slip right off the paint and windshield. Makes it easier to see in rain when wipers can't keep up with rain. Helps make the car less prone to water etching from the sun. The water shedding can also make it easier to clean because drying the car will take much less time.

    • Ceramic coatings last much more than wax. Wax lasts 2-3 months without any stress from weather. Ceramic coat lasts 18-24 months. With the additional Gliss that can be applied over it can make it last another 8-12 months. Ceramic coatings do need to be maintained with a specifically branded reload. The reload gives the ceramic coating a recharge of its hydrophobic properties.

    • Ceramic coating + Gliss make the car look brand new. Shines better than regular wax.

  • Why should this be done by a professional?

    • If not done correctly, the ceramic coating will leave purple ish color behind that can easily be seen. It’s also super difficult to get it off when it dries (almost impossible without professional tools).

    • Difficult to apply if prep work isn’t done correctly. It’s delicate work and if you don’t remove the contaminants from the paint during prep. The coating won’t stick to the paint rendering it completely useless and a waste of time.

    • Well-lit area to see all imperfections in the paint goes a long way in making sure there are no problems with the coating. Most people don’t have access to a well-lit shop.

    • Temperature controlled garage. With a heat and ac units. The garage can be controlled to make sure the coating isn’t getting manipulated due to the heat or cold.

  •  Ceramic coatings do not protect against chips from rocks

  •  Being able to get scratches out of paint beforehand is impossible without a professional dual action polisher.
